BEHIND THE SCENES OF RACING: RED BULL AIR RACE LOGISTICS

Preparations for the first race of the 2010 season are well underway here in Abu Dhabi. Our team hangar has been assembled and our technician Jason is feverishly working to get the Edge race ready. This year, Red Bull Air Race is introducing a new HD camera system that all of the teams are currently installing. It may seem like a small detail but adding a large electrical box with a battery to power the camera system brings up concerns of plane weight and the CG (center of gravity). We’re dealing with these issues as well as adjusting minor things on the plane to comply with new rules and regulations for 2010. Right now, the most important thing is to ensure we are ready to SMOKE ON come race day in our blazing fast machine.

While the teams focus on getting their respective planes ready, Red Bull Air Race has a small army of people equally focused on constructing the venue to host the race this weekend. The logistical effort that goes in to putting on an air race is truly astounding. Wanna see for yourself? Here’s a behind the scenes look at what we’re experiencing in the UAE, just 6 short days away from the opening race of 2010.
