RED BULL AIR RACE CANNES: RACE DAY

The day ended early for Kirby and Team Chambliss at the first ever race over the Riviera in Cannes, France. In the Round of 14, Martin Sonka was the first to fly and laid down a time of 58.982 seconds. With the second fastest qualifying time yesterday, we had hoped a clean flight would put us through to the Round of 8 with ease, but a 2-second penalty for flying too high resulted in a time of 1:00.995. Without the penalty, Martin still would have advanced by just .013 of a second.

“It was a very disappointing finish for our team today. We wanted to continue the positive momentum we had going from Abu Dhabi. This is going to be a big setback on the points,” reflects Kirby.

Australia’s Matt Hall went on to take first place, his first pole since he transitioned from his MX aircraft to an Edge540, followed by Matthias Dolderer of Germany in second and fellow American, Michael Goulian, in third.

With just over a month before the next race, the team will reset and prepare to come back strong for Chiba, Japan, May 26/27.
