RED BULL AIR RACE CHIBA: QUALIFYING DAY

An outstanding performance in today’s Qualifying round holds Team Chambliss in second place ahead of race day in Chiba, Japan! This is the second consecutive time the team has qualified just behind fellow American, Michael Goulian.

“I’m happy with the runs that we did today. [A time of 56.058 seconds] was a big step up from yesterday’s practice session. The airplane is going really well, and I just need to fly it right tomorrow,” remarks Kirby.

As for the tactical plan, here’s what Paulo had to say. “We will follow the same lines that we flew today while making the correct adjustments required by the eventual changes in the wind. In regard to risk, we don’t plan on taking any more risk that we have so far.”

Changes in winds are a big consideration in the flights in Chiba. The winds today were in a completely different direction from yesterday’s practice session, and we may see changes again for tomorrow.

“Flight after flight today, the winds decreased. Changes tomorrow will make it a completely different game. Whoever is capable of adjusting to the new conditions will do really well,” adds Paulo.

Head to head pairings for tomorrow’s Round of 14 are as follows:

  • Heat 1: Christian Bolton vs. Pete McLeod
  • Heat 2: Nicolas Ivanoff vs. Matthias Dolderer
  • Heat 3: Martin Sonka vs. Juan Velarde
  • Heat 4: Matt Hall vs. Yoshihide Muroya
  • Heat 5: Petr Kopfstein vs. Mika Brageot
  • Heat 6: Francois Le Vot vs. Kirby Chambliss
