RED BULL AIR RACE CHIBA: RACE DAY

Kirby Chambliss (USA)

Yesterday’s performance in Qualifying had our team feeling positive going into race day. Although we didn’t have the highest placement, we knew we had a good line based on our time in the first run, up until a penalty for crossing the safety line. But a minor tweak to stay within the safety line and we were ready to go.

In the Round of 14, we faced Juan Velarde of Spain, where a clean run of 55.234 seconds put us through to the Round of 8. Next up, Petr Kopfstein. We had the advantage of flying second and knew that he flew a time of 55.732 seconds. If we could repeat our run from the Round of 14, we would be through to the Final Four by nearly half of a second. Unfortunately, our run was cut short at gate three, where we incurred a DNF for exceeding the maximum G.

It was a disappointing finish for the team, but we’re ready to wipe it away and push through for a better finish at our next stop – a location where Kirby’s seen the most success with five podium finishes – Budapest.
