For the first time in three years, Kirby will race in his home state, when the season finale of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship comes to Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth on Saturday and Sunday, November 17-18, 2018.

The Red Bull Air Race stopped in Fort Worth in 2014 and 2015, but the action this weekend marks the first time that the city will host a season finale. For Kirby, it is a Texas homecoming: the pilot was born in Corpus Christi and grew up in the southern part of the state.

“I love to fly in Texas,” says Kirby, who now lives in Arizona. “It’s always good to be back in these skies, and I think we’re going to see a lot of friends and family here.”

It has been nearly six weeks since the previous stop at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where Kirby sparked some of the highest drama of the weekend when he defeated the then overall leader, Martin Šonka, in their opening round head-to-head, quite literally shaking up the top of the standings. Already a two-time champion himself, Kirby is not in contention for the crown this year, but the race podium in Fort Worth is wide open, and he will be aiming for the top tier.

In the meantime, Kirby thrilled spectators with his aerobatic maneuvers at Nevada’s Minden-Tahoe Aviation Roundup and the SBD Fest in California—coincidentally a great way to maintain G-fitness outside the racetrack. And, his Edge 540 V3 race plane was in Louisiana, where team members, including Paulo, performed extensive testing and collected data, largely to plan for their 2019 campaign.

Also in preparation for 2019, there will be some additional faces in the Team Chambliss hangar at Texas Motor Speedway: communications and event management professional Stephanie Slinn will be collaborating with Kayla , while championship-winning technician Peter Conway will be working alongside Jason .

“We’re focused on this race, but we also have to look ahead,” Kirby explains. “That’s the way it works in this sport—you can’t stand still.”
