RED BULL AIR RACE KAZAN: QUALIFYING DAY

After a first-place finish at the Kazan debut in 2017, the pressure is on for a repeat win this weekend. However, a completely different racetrack means a whole new tactic! Across three practice sessions, we had many results in the 52s range, with our fastest time held at 52.155s in free practice three (the final practice session before qualifying).

Our standing qualifying run for the head-to-head pairings in tomorrow’s Round of 14 was a time of 53.862s, nearly 1.7s off our best time recorded just the session prior. After a bit of a disappointing result, tactician Paulo Iscold stated, “I’m really not sure at this point where we went wrong. The wind was different, but it doesn’t explain why we were so far behind our times from practice. Kirby flew well so it’s going to take some time to review every detail, but I’m confident we will sort it out before the race.”

The 8th place result puts us against Canadian Pete McLeod, who was also on the podium with a 2nd place finish in 2017.

Head-to -head pairings for tomorrow’s Round of 14 are as follows:

  • Heat 1: Nicolas Ivanoff vs. Yoshihide Muroya
  • Heat 2: Petr Kopfstein vs. Ben Murphy
