RED BULL AIR RACE KAZAN: RACE DAY

Pete McLeod (CAN) (L), Kirby Chambliss (USA) (C), Michael Goulian (USA) (R)

Back-to-back wins for Kirby and the team, and now the current lead in the overall world championship standings; what a weekend!

It was a rainy Round of 14 in Russia against the previous World Champion, Matthias Dolderer. Although the conditions weren’t ideal and both Kirby and Matthias incurred a 3-second penalty for a pylon hit, it was Kirby who came out on top. And after knocking out Francois Le Vot in the Round of 8, it became a race between Kirby Chambliss, Michael Goulian, Petr Kopfstein, and Pete McLeod.

Kirby was first to fly and set down the winning time of 58.378 seconds, followed by Pete McLeod in second and Michael Goulian in third, rounding out a North American podium. As we push through the last three races of the season, our team plan is to continue taking each race one at a time.

“If you win a race, you gain points. And by winning the points you become the overall champion. I’ve won two world championships and it’s been a fantastic experience, but at this point, I can’t dwell on the points,” says  Kirby

Paulo Iscold, team Tactician, adds, “To win a race, 100 percent is not enough. We need at least 120 percent of everything. The 20 percent is luck, the remainder is good strategy.”

The Red Bull Air Race World Championship moves to Porto, Portugal, September 2nd and 3rd, a location that the racing series hasn’t seen in eight years.
