RED BULL AIR RACE LAUSITZRING, PRE-RACE

The days leading up to race weekend were far from dull! Kirby joined current championship leader, Matthias Dolderer, and Nicolas Ivanoff in a formation flight over the German countryside. The landscape was once the home to fruitful coal mines, but these have since been transformed into man-made lakes. Fun fact: The Lausitzing Speedway was built over one of these old mining sites!

Teams were able to prepare for race weekend during two training sessions. Our best result came in the second round, where a time of 54.757 seconds placed Kirby in third position. While there’s still time to gain, the team was happy with this overall. Martin Sonka of the Czech Republic set the track record at 53.599 seconds, followed closely by Australia’s Matt Hall at 53.620 seconds. These were the only two pilots to post a time sub-54 seconds. All pilots will have one more chance tomorrow to finalize their path through the course prior to qualifying.

“The last time we were in Lausitz, the racetrack was completely different. It feels like a whole new venue this go-around,” remarks Kirby.

We look forward to a stand full of spectators tomorrow!
