RED BULL AIR RACE LAUSITZRING, RACE DAY

P-20160902-13139_News

A review of yesterday’s Qualifying Round resulted in a reseeding of the head-to head lineups for race day. Instead of racing Germany’s own Matthias Dolderer, we faced Petr Kopfstein in the Round of 14. From entry speed to execution in the track, Kirby’s precision led to his best time yet at 54.736 seconds, over seven tenths faster than his previous record. The decrease in time made us confident as we headed into the Round of 8 against Pete McLeod. While we planned a few additional changes with the intent to make us even faster, a 3-second penalty pulled us out of the game and lead to an 8th place finish.

“Hitting the gate was really a silly mistake. I was thinking about the little changes I wanted to make and already looking towards the next section before passing through the gate I hit,” remarks Kirby.

Although we finished in the lower half of the results in Lausitzring, Germany, we remain fourth in the overall world championship points. We look forward to heading back home to the United States for the last two stops of the 2016 season – Indianapolis, Indiana, on October 1st and 2nd, and Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 15th and 16th.

Current World Championship Standings:
