RED BULL AIR RACE, SPIELBERG AUSTRIA 2014!

The Spielberg Race was a magnificent finish to the 2014 season, a sold out crowd of 35,000+ spectators in Spielberg’s Red Bull Ring. Britain’s Nigel Lamb came out on top winning the 2014 Red Bull Air Race World Championships. Lamb’s second place finish in Las Vegas put him over the top in the point standings. Hannes Arch, the local favorite, had a disappointing day taking 4th place in the Red Bull Ring, meaning his bid for the World Championship was lost. Nicholas Ivanoff, never to be counted out, was the winner of the Spielberg Race! Nigel Lamb, a close second followed by Martin Sonka.

Going into the Top 12, Kirby was matched with Matt Hall, only split seconds apart, Matt received a 2 second penalty and Kirby inched into the Super 8. Kirby, finishing 7th overall with a time of 58.298.

“I ran real nice lines yesterday, happy with my flying but missing the final four by a half a second. We’ll spend the winter working on the airplane, testing and practicing, making all necessary changes to secure to top spot for 2015. I appreciate all the hard work from my Team. Jason Resop, my Crew Chief had been supportive, doing a fantastic job! We are going to miss Danny Onofryton, who started out as an intern and ended up being my Team Communications Coordinator. He’s returning to the University of North Dakota to finish his college education. Grant Groathouse and Stan Gray, also terrific! I am looking forward to working with Michael Reid, our aeronautical engineer and newest member of the Team. Looking ahead to 2015 and expecting great things!”

Smoke off for now, from the Red Bull Air Race World Championships!
