RED BULL AIR RACE WIENER NEUSTADT: QUALIFYING DAY

Wiener Neustadt is home to the first standing start of the 2018 season. Adding to this difficulty, practice sessions were decreased due to weather conditions. Heading into qualifying with just four runs through the course, the team was ecstatic to see a time of 58.305s after the first run. However, it was deemed a disqualification shortly after for exceeding the maximum RPM.

“In a standing start, it’s hard to judge where the controls need to be before power is applied to the plane. RPM is always a concern in this situation,” states Paulo. “With a flying start, Kirby has time to get the oil temperatures up and set the controls in flight before entering the race track. That’s not an advantage we have here.”

With our first run DQ’d. our second qualifying run of 59.526s resulted in a seventh-place finish. We will meet Ben Murphy in Heat Five of tomorrow’s Round of 14.

Head to head pairings for tomorrow’s Round of 14 are as follows:

  • Heat 1: Francois Le Vot vs. Matt Hall
  • Heat 2: Mika Brageot vs. Pete McLeod
