RED BULL AIR RACE INDIANAPOLIS, QUALIFYING DAY

It was yet another day of unusual weather. The rain came and delayed qualifying on two separate occasions, but we are happy to say that all flying was completed. Yoshi Muroya of Japan placed first, and also set a new track record with a time of 1.02.073. Kirby finished qualifying in eight place with a time of 1:04:185 and will face Pete McLeod in the Round of 14.

“There is definitely more pressure being at a home race, but I’m pretty good at pushing away the distractions so I can do my job. Today, we struggled a little bit during the qualifying round. This is a tight track and you really have to set yourself up right to progress with no penalties. Even in my better run, I received a one second penalty. I wasn’t happy with that, but take that out for tomorrow and we will have a faster time for sure. Our team always says that race day is on Sunday, so tomorrow is what really counts.”

Head-to-head pairings for tomorrow’s Round of 14 are as follows:

  • Heat 1: Petr Kopfstein v. Juan Velarde
  • Heat 2: Nicolas Ivanoff v. Matthias Dolderer
  • Heat 3: Michael Goulian v. Martin Sonka
  • Heat 4: Francois Le Vot v. Nigel Lamb
  • Heat 5: Kirby Chambliss v. Pete McLeod
  • Heat 6: Peter Podlunsek v. Matt Hall
  • Heat 7: Christian Bolton v. Yoshihide Muroya
