2016 has been an unusual season when it comes to weather. The rain seems to be following us around the globe! Luckily, it’s been intermittent here in Indy, allowing the pilots to complete all necessary test flights. Prior to flying into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Kirby joined fellow pilots Michael Goulian (USA), Pete McLeod (CAN), and Francois Le Vot (FRA), in a scenic flight over the venue!
Training sessions one and two took place on Friday, and we are feeling great about this location. A new venue, the added element of a standing start, and a full run being about two and a half laps through the track all add to the mental difficulty pilots will face. Training one was very much a learning flight, where different paths were tested. Training two was used to make modifications as necessary and resulted in a third place finish with a time of 1.03.925, almost four seconds faster than Kirby’s best time from training one.
“The key to this track is in the turns. If you can manage your energy there, you’ll be in good shape,” says Kirby.
Aside from the normal race business, the team is enjoying the comforts of “home”. As lovers of all motorsports, we took a break to visit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. What an awesome look at the history surrounding this venue! One of our favorite bits of information was that the first event held at this venue was actually a gas-filled balloon race – who would’ve guessed?? This was a fun event for our team and we would highly recommend it to anyone who has a chance!
